Donal Blaney, Founder of Griffin Law, created The Griffin Law Charitable Foundation to support national and international charities that fit with the Foundation’s ethos and pre-established requirements. Each month, the trustees of the Foundation meet to discuss how to dispense up to £1,000 to good works that may benefit from our funding. This month’s grants were made to causes – and a person – close to the Foundation’s hearts.

The Appleyard Sports Ground and Pavilion Bar – £443

Crowdfunding to Buy a Defibrillator for the local Grassroots Football Community on JustGiving

The Appleyard Sports Ground and Pavilion Bar provides facilities for football, tennis, bowls, and many corporate events. It currently offers home venue pitches for 27+ football teams across the Swale District, catering for all age groups, including Gemma’s 6-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter’s teams.

On any given weekend there can be as many as 14 teams playing at the same time across the 7 Football pitches within the venue, not including family, friends and supporters who may also be in attendance.

The Appleyard has successfully applied to Swale Borough Council for a Defibrillator Grant (£750) to go towards at least 1 defibrillator for the players and visitors to the ground. However, extra funds are required in order to cover full cost, purchase, and installation of a defibrillator ASAP.

Around 12 young people between the ages of 12 and 35 die suddenly through unexplained cardiac events every year in the UK. If defibrillation is delivered promptly, initial survival rates as high as 75% have been reported.

As at 18/11/21 – the amount raised is £557. The target is £1000. The trustees would like to make the donation up to £1000.

Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support – £1,000

Rick, Lance’s stepfather, was taken to the hospital with pains in his stomach on 28 July 2021. Cancerous cells were found the following week. He passed away on 29 August 2021.

Donations are being made to Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support by family and friends, in the name of Rick, through a page set up by the funeral directors as a tribute to his life. These donations are sent to the respective charities monthly by muchloved.com. £2,650 has been raised so far.

The Foundation would like to donate £1,000, to be split equally between the two charities.
