The Griffin Law Charitable Foundation was created by our founder to support national and international charities that fit with the Foundation’s ethos and pre-established requirements. Each month, the trustees of the Foundation meet to discuss how to dispense up to £1,000 to good works that may benefit from our funding. The trustees donated a little more this month.

Friends of Double Joy

https://www.double-joy.org.uk/meet-double-joy

Friends of Double Joy is a grassroots UK charity which raises money for Double Joy Children’s Farm, an orphanage in western Kenya. Double Joy was opened in 1995 by Mary Hinde (a UK citizen), after seeing the devastating impact of the AIDs epidemic, leaving many children without both parents. The orphanage is now home to 95 vulnerable children whose parents were the victims of AIDs and other severe illnesses. Double Joy offers these amazing children a safe, stable and loving home and a good education to help them into adult life.

There are no UK staff salaries or administration costs. Double Joy employs 34 local staff and is well known in the local Kenyan area. Mary Hinde, who is self-funding, continues to live on site in her 80s to oversee the care of these children. All money is spent at source.

Mark is taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride again this year, in September, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, to help raise valuable funds to enable the charity to continue in its work towards finding a cure for cancer and in the meantime, providing the support and care that many cancer sufferers and their families desperately need.

Bright Horizons Foundation for Children

https://brightspaces.org.uk/

Bright Spaces are the Foundation’s core programme. Bright Spaces are warm, safe, enriching play environments located in homeless shelters, domestic violence refuges, hospitals, police stations, and prison visits halls.

They are used by Bright Space partners for a range of purposes, including play, therapeutic services, family visits, and child protection interviews. The Foundation believes that it can make the world a better place by working collaboratively to strengthen families, support communities, share knowledge, and by encouraging others to join it in making a difference. The following amounts really make a difference:

£12 = books for children using a Bright Space

£60 = baby gym and mat for a baby living in a refuge

£360 = a Teen Bright Space in a police station for child abuse victims

£720 = a mobile Bright Space for a domestic violence outreach worker

£6,000 = a complete Bright Space in a homeless shelter or refuge

The Griffin Law Charitable Foundation donation amount – £360 to support a Teen Bright Space installation in a police station
