The Griffin Law Charitable Foundation was created by our Founder to support national and international charities that fit with the Foundation’s ethos and pre-established requirements. Each month, the trustees of the Foundation meet to discuss how to dispense up to £1,000 to good works that may benefit from our funding.

This month, the trustees have decided to make donations as follows:

St John’s Hospice North Lancashire and South Lakes

St John’s Hospice provided the most compassionate, dignified end-of-life care to staff member Domi’s mother-in-law, June, last year, and their support meant a huge amount to the family during a very difficult time. The hospice is run through donations and fundraising, and the work they do really is extraordinary. It costs £6m a year to run the hospice, of which the government provides 25% so donations are crucial. As a small way of giving back, Domi’s husband Jules, his sisters, and their stepdad put on a concert in June’s memory to raise money for the hospice — they raised an amazing £1,300.

Mission statement from the Hospice: St John’s Hospice is a charity. All of our care, compassion and support is offered free of charge to patients and their families or carers. Our care however is not cost free, around a quarter of our funding is from the government and the remaining three-quarters is raised by people like you in our local community. This is why St John’s fundraises throughout the year with events, the St John’s lottery, monthly giving schemes, wills and our shops … so we can be there for one of the most difficult times in people’s lives.

Maidstone Football Club Limited

Formed in 1880, the Club is amongst the oldest in the country and has for many years played its rugby at the picturesque Mote Cricket Ground, adjacent to Mote Park and the Mote Leisure Centre. The Club is RFU Accredited and possesses the club mark.

The Club was established to promote, encourage, and foster the game for the benefit of the members  at all levels and to foster the game at all levels in the area of the grounds and the surrounding areas;

Recently, the Club has had to service the scrum machine, a piece of equipment used during training sessions. This piece of equipment is essential for the improvement of all players, particularly during strength and scrummaging practice sessions. It provides a medium through which players improve their scrummaging technique by physically pushing the machine along the floor. The costs of repairs totalled £1,089.60.

Sittingbourne Youth FC U14 Blacks – Ladies

Our aim is to provide a safe but challenging environment where young girls feel inspired and empowered by one another, through the sport of football. We place a strong emphasis on encouraging girls to reach their full potential and to know their value in sports. Our expectations of discipline, respect, and supporting one another are valuable life lessons that we hope to see translate off the pitch and into their wider lives. Our girls have played in a boys league for the past three seasons. They have often been underestimated and have fought to challenge perceptions and break down barriers.

This season, their hard work paid off, winning the Maidstone Youth Football League Cup against boys their own age. Furthermore, they are also Kent County Champions for girls their own age. Individually, we have no less than 10 girls taken on by academy teams for the upcoming season. A couple of these girls have come from economically underprivileged backgrounds, where our comparably lower fees have given them access to training and coaching that may have otherwise been beyond their remit, and arguably opened up opportunities for them that may have remained closed.

Due to our success, we have set up a second team to play in the Junior Premier League Warriors (an elite girls league) We have managed to raise enough funds for a home kit, but we would love to be able to provide the girls with either bench coats or an away kit. This will help the girls to feel valued and further cement their identity as a team.
